Sunshine Tours to Ocean Village ,5th and 6th of July
Well, much to the surprise of many this cruise ran, despite a weather forecast of 5,6 even 7 gusts on the Saturday, on the nose, wind against tide. Some boats were already out which made life easier, and cancelling the whole thing a bit unfair, but many quite reasonably opted to opt out! Therefore huge credit to Ruby, Pym and Windreaver who all came from Chichester and enjoyed a sail the memory of which is likely to be long lasting! Good Time Girl, Arcadia and Good Day Sunshine all had a much easier passage.
So six boats made it, and after the traditional pontoon party all retired to a Banana Wharf where the world was put to rights with a thoroughly enjoyable dinner. Ocean Village is a bit unlike any other marina in the Solent, its large, full of some huge boats and surrounded by hotels, apartment blocks and restaurants. But tied up within arms reach of the CYC boats was Shamrock V, one of three remaining J class yachts built in 1930 in Gosport. She was Sir Thomas Liptons attempt at the Americas Cup (say no more) and following an extensive refit, complete in 2024, she looks absolutely magnificent. The crew were friendly and informative but clearly under instruction re no sightseers on board and believe me, we tried! It was being readied for passage to the Mediterranean next week, where the owner will join!
The weather Sunday moderated considerably and a much more pleasant down wind sail resulted for those returning to Chichester. GOOD DAY SUNSHINE
